A quick hop from central Tokyo to Little Edo in just 30 minutes
Kawagoe City is located in the central west of Saitama Prefecture and is very conveniently accessible from Tokyo. There are multiple routes to get there, including by train, car, and bus, making it a perfect location for a day trip. Here we will introduce the main access methods in detail.
Access by train
JR Saikyo Line: Shinjuku Station → Kawagoe Station, about 50 minutes.
Tobu Tojo Line: Ikebukuro Station → Kawagoe Station, about 30 minutes. There are many express and rapid express trains from Ikebukuro, so it is very convenient. There is also a discount Koedo Kawagoe coupon that can be used with the Tobu bus.
JR and Tobu Tojo Line have the same “Kawagoe Station”. The next station after “Kawagoe Station” on the Tobu Tojo Line is “Kawagoe-shi Station”. Since it is the starting station, you can sit on the way back. However, Tobu Tojo Line and JR Kawagoe Station and Seibu Shinjuku Line Hon-Kawagoe Station are far apart and it takes about 10 minutes on foot.
Seibu Shinjuku Line: Seibu Shinjuku Station → Hon-Kawagoe Station, approx. 45 minutes by Red Arrow Limited Express / approx. 60 minutes by Express. Hon-Kawagoe Station is the closest to the tourist center of Kawagoe, and is within walking distance of the Kura-zukuri streetscape and Toki no Kane. As soon as you leave the station, you can feel the “Kawagoe vibe,” so this is the perfect line to start your sightseeing. Tokyu Toyoko Line: The Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line and Tobu Tojo Line run directly through the station, so you can get to Kawagoeshi Station from Yokohama Station without having to transfer.
Access by car
From Tokyo: Nerima IC → Kawagoe IC, Kan-etsu Expressway, about 30 minutes. After exiting the IC, you can access the city center in about 15 minutes. There are many coin parking lots. However, parking near tourist spots is expensive. We recommend the free “City Tourist Parking Lot.” The address is 675-12 Matsugo, Kawagoe City.
Access by express bus
Expressway buses also operate from Narita Airport, Haneda Airport, and other areas.
