When sightseeing in Koedo Kawagoe, please be sure to use the designated smoking areas. It is important to be considerate of those around you and observe good manners. There are not many smoking areas in tourist areas, but they are not as few as those in Kyoto or Hakodate, and they are installed at intervals where smoking can be used approximately once every 1-2 hours. However, the number of smoking areas has been gradually decreasing recently. If you wish to smoke outside of the designated smoking areas, you are asked to be considerate and purchase products at the facility.
Here are smoking areas that have been confirmed as of July 2025.
Kawagoe Station East Exit (designated smoking area)：On the edge of a small park. Under an overpass. Near a railroad crossing.
Hon-Kawagoe Station Square (designated smoking area)：North side of Pepe. Next to the police box. Just before the scramble intersection. The smoking area in Kurari is gone.
Maruhiro Department Store Kawagoe Branch：Annex, 3rd floor. There is no longer an outdoor smoking area.
Nomoto Liquor Store：A few dozen meters south of Matsuecho intersection. Next to a stonemasonry store.
Seven-Eleven Kawagoe Shintomicho Hachiman Street Store：t is a few dozen meters away from Hachiman-dori Maruhiro, a back street of Clare Mall. The outdoor smoking area at Maruhiro is gone.
Seven-Eleven Kawagoe Rokkenmachi store：Rokkenmachi intersection. There are no smoking areas at Kawagoeshi Station.
Family Mart Kawagoe Torimachi Store：In front of the apartment building at Torimachi intersection.
Kita-in Temple：There are two locations, one next to the 500 Arhats and one in front of them.
Eiki Shokai：Go a few dozen meters towards the city hall from the Fidanotsuji intersection.
FamilyMart Kawagoe Motomachi Fudanotsuji Store：A few dozen meters north from Fudanotsuji intersection.
Seven-Eleven Kawagoe Miyashitacho 2-chome store：To the right of the courthouse. In front of Hikawa Shrine. There used to be a smoking area at Hikawa Shrine, but I couldn’t find it this time.
